Type Locality and Naming

It was named by Jin Chuntai et al. (1989). The type section is at the roadside from Longdanxi to Maliuqiao in the east part of the Erlangshan Mt. area in west Sichuan Province.

Synonym: (麻柳桥组)


Lithology and Thickness

It is subdivided into two members. Lower member, 46 m thick, consists of gray thick-bedded calcareous mudstone with limestone lenses. Upper member, over 116 m thick, is composed of gray thick-bedded sandy dolomite, dolomitic limestone, calcareous sandstone intercalated with mudstone; the base is marked by the dark gray medium-bedded limestone.

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

The formation rests conformably onto the underlying Sashuiyan Fm

Upper contact

The formation is conformably below the overlying Douniuzi Fm of the Devonian (not in current Devonian lexicon).

Regional extent

The exposures of the formation are distributed on the southern slope of the Erlangshan Mt.

Fossils

It yields tetracorals Cystiphyllum, Microplasma, Zelophyllum, Cysticonophyllum; tabulate coral Favosites, Mesofavosites and brachiopods Howellella, Eospirifer in the lower member. And the upper member contains conodonts Lonchodina walliseri, Lingonodina silurica, Trichonodella inconstans, etc.
